Arne Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Has The Club's Backing Following PSV Loss
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's expected for concerns to be raised about his future following another convincing defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their ninth defeat in 12 matches, representing the club's worst streak after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a difficult night at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I have got plenty of backing from the top,” Slot remarked.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and secure a win of course but if you are coaching a team and underperforming then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my situation. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with The Board
When asked to provide details on his dialogues with the club's leadership, the head coach explained:
“We communicate frequently. They assist to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me constantly of the day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal discussions I sense the confidence. However I've not talked to them after this match so far so we'll see.”
Recurring Failings and Player Reaction
Slot lamented familiar weaknesses from his team in their European defeat, namely poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder said.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don't need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond being angry inside. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team going through a spell such as this with results so bad.”
Jones finished, “But we still have that badge on our shirts. And until it is gone, we'll continue to battle.”
“We’re going to try to get this team return to the top, prove again what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the best team in the planet.”
“At this moment, things are bad and it must improve.”
