Battlefield 6's Casual Game Mode Sparks Heated Debates Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Recently, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but features several key adjustments:

  • Each team includes just eight human participants, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Actions done by human gamers award full XP, while AI activities offer lower rewards.
  • Just a pair of locations are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
  • Elements like Dogtags, achievements, and stat tracking have been turned off.

So essentially, this mode lives up to its name: it offers a casual take of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it provides additional choices for players looking for alternative ways to have fun with the title. But, if video games have taught us anything, it's that you can't please everyone. In other words, a lot of Battlefield 6 fans are upset.

Community Responses: Anger to Support

"Gamers prefer real players. Don't repeat the mistakes of your rivals," reads a response to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking idea," comments another. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," and another lists everything they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this game 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," states another. One reply on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," and someone else praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Concerns and Player Feedback

Despite the support, players have valid points to complain about the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it will make wait times more extended for other modes because of the sheer number of playlists in the game already. Similarly, some areas already encounter AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode won't start without a required amount of real players, despite it primarily centers on combat against bots.

Lastly, a major complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide complete rewards, even against bots, but that got canned when they tried to remove bot farms from the system. So this new playlist seems like the player base compromising halfway, according to a Reddit comment. A different user describes this mode as the devs "dropping the ball so hard, I had great enjoyment in the initial release, what prompted them to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?

If Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data indicates this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they won't be shy to change it again.
