Both Deceased Students Identified in the Providence Campus Incident as Police Continue Search for Perpetrator.

Both young individuals who were killed in the recent tragic incident at Brown University were being remembered Monday – amid a widespread hunt for their killer continued following the freeing by authorities in Rhode Island of the single suspect detained in connection in the case.

Remembering Ella Cook

The young woman Ella Cook, a second-year student from Alabama, was described as “a wonderful, steady, devout, shining presence”, according to the Birmingham's Cathedral Church of the Advent, which honored her memory at a service on Sunday.

Cook was the vice-presidency of Brown’s division of College Republicans of America, according to the organization. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also shared sympathies online, saying in part: “It's indescribable. Thinking of her loved ones and companions, above all her mom and dad.”

An International Student

The other person killed was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, an Uzbek national in his first year of studies at the renowned school, according to relatives.

His name was officially acknowledged by the Uzbek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. His ambitions were lofty of becoming a neurosurgeon and aiding others,” his sister, Samira Umurzokova said in a online post.

The Shooting Incident

Nine more persons were wounded in the violent event in the engineering building of Brown’s campus in Providence, during the university's examination week.

Authorities said by the end of Sunday that a man aged 24 detained in a police operation at a hotel about approximately 17 miles from the scene earlier in the day was being released.

“A perpetrator remains free,” stated the state's top prosecutor, Peter Neronha.

Neronha explained, “Sometimes you head in one direction, and then you have to regroup and pursue a different angle, and that is the current situation over the last 24 hours or so.”

Public Fear

The city's mayor, Brett Smiley, noted: “We know that this is likely to cause renewed concern for our city”.

The shooter began shooting inside a lecture hall in the engineering building on Saturday afternoon, firing more than 40 rounds from a handgun, a law enforcement official reported to the Associated Press.

Police that raided the inn found two handguns and two ammunition clips when the suspect was arrested, according to reports.

The Wounded Victims

Among those wounded, one pupil was discharged from care, mentioned Christina Paxson, Christina Paxson. An additional seven were in critical but stable condition, and one remained in critical care, officials reported on Sunday.

Durham Academy, a private K-12 school in the city of Durham, said Kendall Turner, Kendall Turner, was in the group of seriously hurt victims.

Additional Memorials

Cook was remembered at a memorial in Birmingham on Sunday. A clergyman said, “She was an incredible, grounded, faithful bright light not only during her upbringing... but at Brown she was an incredible light in that particular place as well.”

A group leader, Martin Bertao, shared a message from the organization. “Ella was recognized for her bold, brave, and kind heart as she aided her club and fellow classmates,” he said.

The US ambassador, Jonathan Henick, said he was “extremely sorrowful” by the passing of Umurzokov in a tribute. “Our profound condolences go out to the Umurzokov family, loved ones, and fellow students and grieve for of his promising future.”

The fatal shooting at Brown, the country's seventh most historic college with about over seven thousand undergraduate and postgraduate students, occurred during one of at least 392 shooting incidents documented across the United States so far in the current year, according to statistics. The following Monday was the 349th day of the year.
