Lille Surprises AS Roma as Goalkeeper Saves 3 Consecutive Penalty Kicks
Lille shot-stopper the Turkish keeper spectacularly denied 3 back-to-back spot-kicks in the final stages of their Europa League victory over Roma.
The French side led through Hakon Arnar Haraldsson's sixth-minute finish after he took advantage of an error to find the net.
But hosts the Italian club were awarded the perfect opportunity to equalise and earn a tie when they were given an late penalty after hand ball by Aissa Mandi.
Replacement Artem Dovbyk stepped up to take the penalty but his attempt was blocked, only for official the referee to instruct a retake after Ozer was ruled to have stepped forward.
Dovbyk took the kick again only to be stopped again by the visiting keeper, but this time the Turkey international was deemed to have stepped forward too early.
Responsibility to execute the third attempt was then handed to Soule, but he too was saved by Ozer and this time the save counted to help secure the French team's victory.
Roma boss Gian Piero Gasperini commented afterwards: "I have never witnessed 3 missed penalties in a single game. It was an nearly unprecedented random situation, which in the end compromised the result."
