President Trump Invites Loved Ones of Injured National Guard Members to the Presidential Residence
President Trump announced on Sunday that he has invited the family of a Guard member killed last week to visit the executive mansion.
He added that he contacted her parents and they were “heartbroken”.
Details on the Tragic Incident
US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a attack on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her comrade, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in critical condition.
Vigils across the state have taken place in their honor.
Presidential Call
The commander-in-chief explained he’s proposed a meeting at the presidential residence for the loved ones of both individuals of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a difficult moment, come to the White House. We’re going to honor her,” the president informed the press. “And likewise with Andrew, recover or not.”
Community Support
Mourners assembled over the weekend at a local school in West Virginia to pay respects to Sarah.
Both she and Wolfe had been fulfilling duties with the state guard as part of the president’s national effort to aid law enforcement in the capital.
Honoring the Soldier
“Sarah was the type of pupil that educators wished for. She conducted herself with quiet strength, a warm expression and a upbeat demeanor that encouraged people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the leader of her former high school, stated to the media. “She was kind, compassionate and always eager to help others.”
Memorial arrangements for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Judicial Steps and Policy Revisions
Law enforcement have indicted a 29-year-old Afghan national with a charge of murder and charges of violent assault while carrying a weapon.
The tragedy caused the government to pause refugee claims and cease issuing visas to possessors of passports from Afghanistan.
Status of Wolfe
The airman, a native of the city, started his military career in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman High, per the AP.
He is still undergoing care and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s governor Morrisey stated on a news program.
Attorney general Pam Bondi informed the program that she also intended to meet with his relatives.
Impact of Sarah Beckstrom
Sarah, from her hometown, graduated from Webster County High in mid-2023 and began her service not long after, working as a law enforcement officer with honor, according to the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she certainly had bravery,” he told the gathering at the service. “Though her life was cut short, she has created a legacy that’s going to be remembered always.”
