The offspring of Zimbabwe's former President Mugabe Sr has been presented in a Zimbabwean courtroom facing drug possession.

Robert Mugabe Jr, thirty-three, was arrested on midweek while driving the wrong way down a single-direction road, as per court documents. Law enforcement searched a dark carry-on he was wearing and reportedly discovered a couple of packets of marijuana.

Following the incident, police stated in a release that five individuals in a "syndicate linked to him" were likewise detained.

Mr Mugabe's lawyer indicated they intend to contest the charges and challenged the factual claims made by law enforcement.

Ashiel Mugiya claimed the drugs were recovered from a vehicle that had additional passengers, and that officers had located 0.02g of cannabis—while the official documentation states police recovered two grams, with a street value of thirty dollars (£22).

Mr Mugabe had on joggers and a crimson hat while using his mobile as he was escorted into the magistrates court on the following day. He was accompanied by people and was without restraints.

The court detained Mr Mugabe in confinement pending a bail ruling on the end of the week.

Police indicated they will proceed with the inquiry.

This is not the defendant's initial encounter with the legal system. In 2023, the younger offspring of the former president and his surviving spouse his mother was detained over claims he vandalized items and spat on a police officer at a gathering in the capital.
