The Director's Take on Frankenstein Teaser Is Blessedly Gothic
The acclaimed director's adaptation of Frankenstein stands as one of the most awaited films for the coming year. This Netflix collaboration, his version of the dark narrative faithfully adapts of Mary Shelley's 19th-century novel, Frankenstein.
With the creature (not a monster) shown earlier, the main question remained: how soon will we see the preview for Frankenstein?
As it turns out, it's available today. Revealed on Oct. 1 — a fittingly spooky date — this new preview shows us the creation of the being within the scientist's lab.
It also depicts the creature awakening, causing havoc and mayhem as it searches for the creator who left him.
The lives that are shattered after their encounter when brought together come into focus. It looks phenomenal and tragic, hinting that it's poised to be essential viewing for film enthusiasts during the fall months.
Del Toro's Stance: Beyond the Horror Genre
The director has been involved in numerous horror-related projects for a long time.
On the surface, Frankenstein certainly seems to fit the bill. However, regardless, he has publicly declared that this is not a horror film.
"This is a deeply moving tale for me. It’s as personal as anything. I'm exploring themes regarding fatherhood and sonhood… This isn't a scary movie — at all."

Starring Oscar Isaac portraying the ambitious scientist alongside Jacob Elordi as the being brought to life, fans of the original story know that there's more to this tale than cheap scares.
The story contains deep feeling, violence, and yet an undeniable longing for acceptance and love. The way Del Toro portrays the heart of these concepts will soon become clear.
When to Watch
Fortunately, we won't have to wait long. Viewers can catch a brief, awards-qualifying theatrical run in select theaters starting Oct. 17, ahead of streaming on Netflix on Nov. 7.
