The former Liverpool manager states a return to manage Liverpool is theoretically possible.
The German coach, who stepped down from Liverpool in 2024, indicated that returning someday remains something that could happen. The 58-year-old, after a transformative nine-year spell featuring a European Cup triumph and the Premier League crown for three decades, has since taken on roles in a global football capacity for Red Bull and as an advisor for the DFL.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
The club claimed the Premier League under Arne Slot, though countless followers who adore the manager would embrace the possibility that he may eventually return. During an extensive chat, he explained to the podcast host: “I stated I will never coach another team in England. Which implies if then it’s Liverpool...yes. In theory, it could happen.”
“Being 58, which suggests I might decide down the line, it's uncertain. Do I have to make the decision today? In that case, I'd stay away. Fortunately, I don’t have to do that. I'll simply watch how things unfold.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
When asked about which situations would need to occur to tempt his return to management, he confessed he feels no immediate pull to such a return. “I don’t even know exactly, My present work fulfills me,” he stated. “No longing for management; I don’t miss standing under bad weather for lengthy sessions; I'm glad to skip press conferences four times, three times a week or constant media duties a week.
“I don’t miss the dressing room per se, however, dining out with the players enjoying conversation, I appreciate that. Success was frequent meaning regularly positive atmosphere around the place. I can still hear the captain's chuckle vividly recalled for example.”
Commending Arne Slot
He spoke highly of the current boss, praising him due to the changes which secured the championship last term. They've been defeated four consecutive matches across various tournaments after a summer spending spree, yet he dismissed the notion it could be the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker such as Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if spoken against. He’s an incredible talent. [Hugo] Ekitike, superb talent. It’s a really good well-judged squad. No need for concern over the club, they'll bounce back.”
Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward
Klopp also spoke emotionally on the loss of Diogo Jota, a 2020 acquisition during his tenure, and the effect on Liverpool. Jota lost his life in a car crash together with his sibling in July.
“Can you substitute a person like him? This isn't just regarding the player himself, it's his character. It's hard to picture the team environment without him in it. Putting it into words is tough on this topic. A devastating blow for the entire squad also. Not a single person might employ it to justify results but it is the situation. You walk in a dressing room which he filled completely. Dealing with that on a personal level is not easy. Impossible.”
