One of the co-founders of the well-known frozen dessert company Ben and Jerry's has announced that corporate owner Unilever stopped the introduction of an innovative pro-Palestinian frozen dessert product.

Ben Cohen, that established the company alongside his partner, disclosed that he plans to independently develop this new flavor within a personal series highlighting issues the company was barred from addressing publicly.

Ongoing Conflict Involving Creators versus Corporate Owner

This latest development intensifies the continuing disagreement between the world-famous dessert company with its corporate parent, the UK-based consumer goods corporation which has owned Ben & Jerry's for over two decades.

Both founders have claimed that Unilever along with their ice cream division the Magnum brand unlawfully blocked their company from "honouring its social mission".

The Fruit Sorbet as a Symbol for Solidarity

The entrepreneur announced through an Instagram video that he's developing a new watermelon-flavored sorbet, requesting consumer ideas for naming options and additional components.

“I'm doing what they couldn't,” the founder declared in a cooking set. “I'm making a watermelon-based ice cream that calls for permanent peace for Palestinians and calls for repairing the damage that occurred in the region.”

The watermelon has become an emblem for solidarity with Palestinians because of its colors, that match those of the Palestinian flag – the distinctive four-color pattern.

Historical Social Engagement plus Current Developments

In 2021, Ben & Jerry's ceased sales of their merchandise in territories occupied by Israel, leading to Unilever transferring the Israeli operation over to an Israeli distributor, thus allowing continued sales in disputed territories.

This upcoming dessert series will be developed under Ben's Best, the socially conscious ice cream brand which was first created several years back for endorsing former political contender Senator Sanders via the flavor "Bernie's Back".

Leadership Shifts plus Upcoming Intentions

Mr. Cohen indicated that he will create other ice cream flavors focusing on concerns that the company was silenced from speaking about openly by corporate restrictions.

This development follows partner Mr. Greenfield stepped down his position at Ben & Jerry's recently, following many years with the organization, mentioning worries regarding how the company's autonomy had been undermined after Unilever's decision to restrict its social activism.

At that time, Mr. Cohen commented that “My partner has a really big heart and the ongoing dispute with our parent company was deeply distressing him."

“My conscience leads me to keep working within the organization to fight for its independence so that the company can achieve the social mission, the values that it was founded on while upholding for decades," he explained to media outlets.
