This Swine Life: Pig Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.
While perhaps not at the same level as pardoning holiday birds, but the county's top official experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a second term in office.
“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future free from concern.”
The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to emulate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The animal, provided by a first responder, was named for the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “6-7” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The trend became so widespread that a leading lexicon site recently declared “six-seven” its top term for the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to begin the holiday season,” said the event host, in a decidedly positive message.
“It captures the character of Miami: vibrant, varied, and based in heritage that bring people together. Annually, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”
Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
